San Francisco Opera’s Department of Diversity, Equity, and Community Announces February & March Presentations

San Francisco Opera’s Department of Diversity, Equity, and Community has announced that it will present “For the Love of Opera” throughout the month of February followed by a Women’s History Celebration in March.

The series, which is part of the Department’s weekly lecture series “Opera Aficionado,” will feature numerous 75-minute Zoom conversations about topics related to love in opera and women in opera.

First up is “LGBTQ Love in 21st Century Opera,” which will be led by Albert Montañez on Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. It will be followed by “Opera’s Unlikeliest Valentines” on Feb. 14 at 1 p.m.; Cori Ellison will lead this discussion.

On Feb. 21, 2021, audiences can see Laura Prichard in “Love Potion No. 9: When Magic Sends Love Askew.” The February series will end with David Conte taking on a discussion on “From Opera to Hollywood” on Feb. 28.

In March, audiences will get a chance to check out “Women in Opera Panel: Opera vs. The Bechdel Test.” That panel will be presented on March 7, 2021. Cori Ellison will moderate.

Alexandra Amati will lead “The Origins of the Female Operatic Voice” on March 14, 2021 with Audrey Johnson heading “We’ve Come a Long Way, Ladies!: A Celebration of the 19th Amendment Through Song on March 21, 2021.

The final panel of March will take place on March 29 with “Maestra to the Pit, Please: Women Conductors,” featuring Laura Prichard.
