San Francisco Opera has announced the dates and locations for its upcoming “Boheme Out of the Box,” a series of free, live performances of an abridged version of Puccini’s famous work. The showcase will take place between March 10-April 2, 2023.

The company will travel to outdoor locations through the Bay Area in the Spring in celebration of their Centennial Season, with “La Bohème” being the first opera ever staged by the company. Directed by Jose Maria Condemi, the cast features SFO’s Adler Fellows and guest artists accompanied by piano, performed on a converted sipping container which has been turned into a mobile opera stage.

The role of Mimì will be shared by Mikayla Sager and Olivia Smith, Rodolfo by Edward Graves and Victor Cardamone, and Musetta by Nikola Printz and Arianna Rodriguez; piano accompaniment will alternate between Yang Lin and Marika Yasuda. All performances will feature Jongwon Han as Colline, Timothy Murray as Marcello, Philip Skinner as Benoit/Alcindoro, and Daniel Cilli as Schaunard.

San Francisco Opera has made all performances free to attend, with seating on a first-come basis. The opening performances on March 10 and 12 are slated to take place in Alameda with showcases on March 17, 18, and 19 scheduled for South San Francisco. Residents in Los Gatos can check out the March 24, 25, and 26 performances while those in Dublin will get the shows on March 31, April 1 and 2, 2023.
