San Francisco Opera to Present ‘Opera in the Park’ This Weekend

San Francisco Opera is set to celebrate the opening of its 102nd season with San Francisco Chronicle Presents Opera in the Park.

The concert will be held on Sept. 8 at 1:30 p.m. and will be free to the general public. The concert is an annual Bay Area tradition established in 1971 and takes place at Robin Williams Meadow in Golden Gate Park.

San Francisco Opera General Director Matthew Shilvock will emcee the event which will be conducted by Music Director Eun Sun Kim. Soloists featured include sopranos Lianna Haroutounian, Toni Marie Palmertree, Arianna Rodriguez, Olivia Smith, and Mei Gui Zhang; mezzo-sopranos Judit Kutasi, Nikola Printz and Irene Roberts; tenors Michael Fabiano, Thomas Kinch, and Alek Shrader; baritones Aleksey Bogdanov, Amartuvshin Enkhbat and Samuel Kidd; bass-baritone Jongwon Han; and bass John Relyea.

Audiences will hear arias and duets from composers Bizet, Gounod, Meyerbeer, Mozart, Puccini, and Verdi along with selections from musical theater.

San Francisco Opera’s season will open with Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera” and will also include productions of “The Handmaid’s Tale” and “Tristan und Isolde,” among others.
