By David Salazar

The San Francisco Opera has announced the addition of two new panels to its monthly Ring cycle presentation.

On March 22, the company will stream a unique panel discussion entitled “The Ring from the Pit.” The showcase will feature Francisco Opera Tad and Dianne Taube General Director Matthew Shilvock as he converses with members of the San Francisco Opera Orchestra on the challenges required to perform Wagner’s epic tetralogy.

Four days later, audiences will get a chance to check out “What’s Opera, Doc?,” a panel discussion that explores the intersection of opera and animation with Craig Hausen, Chairman of the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity. Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer Pete Doctor will also be in the discussion, which will be moderated by John C. Morris, San Francisco Opera Guild Program Manager.

The company also announced that three sopranos (Jane Eaglen, Nina Stemme, and Iréne Theorin) will be featured in the previously announced “Becoming Brünnhilde” panel. Furthermore, the “Green Wagner: Environmental Themes and Challenges in Wagner’s Ring” will include conversations with Francesca Zambello, Michael Yeargan, and Kirsten Paige. Finally, the guests for the Festival Closing Toast scheduled for March 30, 2021 will include Jamie Barton, Ronnita Miller, Francesca Zambello, Naomi André, and Matthew Shivlock.
