San Diego Opera has announced “Opera Hack 3.0,” the third installment in its interdisciplinary series which brings theater and tech experts together to explore how technology can improve the production, presentation, and experience of opera.

On May 20, 2022, “Opera Hack” will commence with numerous, virtual events featuring panelists, partners, and participants, as they introduce new topics of discussion. There will be an effort to connect interested participants, who are encouraged to apply by June 1, with final proposals being required by July 3. Up to three winning proposals will be chosen on August 6, and given funding to develop their projects under the mentorship of the advisory panel.

The panel will be comprised of figures such as architect and VR expert Alex Coloumbe, producer and current Director of Digital Development for the Royal Shakespeare Company Sarah Ellis, virtual production expert Sheiva Khalily, and immersive entertainment leader Stephanie Riggs.

Interested participants should have expertise in areas such as technical direction, lighting design, composition, costume design, theater project management, stage direction, scenic design, virtual and augmented reality, creative coding and A.I., among others.
