Salzburg Festival Announces Program & Cast Changes

The Salzburg Festival has announced a few alterations to its upcoming schedule including program updates and cast changes.

The Festival taking place July 18 through August 31 will now hold its Opening Ceremony on July 26 at 11 am at the Felsenreitschule.

Additions to this program include Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s “Verleih uns Frieden gnädiglich,” Scelsi’s “Konx-om-pax: 3rd Movement,” “Still Music” by Ukrainian composer Valentin Silvestrov who recently fled the country due to Russia’s attacks on Ukraine. IlijaTrojanow will deliver the keynote address entitled “The Tone of War, the Keys of Peace.”

Cast changes include Irène Jacob and Jérôme Kircher singing the title roles of Arthur Honegger’s “Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher.” They are taking the place of Isabelle Huppert and André Jung. Although, André Jung’s appearances in “Verrückt nach Trost” are unaffected.

In the “Song Recital Christian Gerhaher, Julia Kleiterillness” Ammiel Bushakevitz will now accompany on the piano. Due to illness Gerhaher is unable to participate.

The final addition to the program is song recitals given by both Jonas Kaufmann and Diana Damrau. Kaufman will perform with pianist Helmut Deutsch and Damrau will be joined by harpist Xavier de Maistre.
