Salzburg Festival Announces Participants of 2021 Young Singers Project

The Salzburg Festival has announced the participants of the 2021 Young Singers Project.

The participants will participate in productions of “Vom Stern, der nitch leuchten konnte,” “Tosca,” the YCA Award Concert Weekend, and “Elektra.”

Soprano Miriam Kutrowatz, contralto Freya Apffelstaedt, bass-baritone Gabriel Rollinson, tenor Sebastian Mach, countertenor Tobias Hechler, soprano Liubov Medvedeva, and baritone Nikolai Zemlyanskikh will appear in “Vom Stern, der nitch leuchten konnte,” while soprano Verity Wingate will take on the Trainbearer and mezzo-soprano Evgenia Asanova will be the Confidante in “Elektra.”

Bass Alexander Köpeczi will be un carceriere in “Tosca” while Medvedeva, tenor Ángel Macías, and soprano Ikumi Nakagawa will participate in the YCA Award Concert Weekend.

Artists will also be offered a major education platform in which they will take music lessons, engage in repertory expansion, as well as language coaching and masterclasses with major artists such as Malcolm Martineau, Gerald Finley, and Tanja Ariane Baumgartner.

“The expert ear of Evamaria Wieser, the director of the Young Singers Project, is confirmed by the fact that the participants in the Young Singers Project achieve excellent results at competitions all over the world and are engaged by the best opera houses. Of course we involve them every year in our program; this year it will feature a total of 12 Young Singers Project fellows,” stated Artistic Director Markus Hinterhäuser in a press release.
