The Salzburg Festival has announced that the Salzburg Exhibition Centre will serve as a temporary venue for the 2029 and 2030 seasons.

While the Grosses Festspielhaus undergoes renovation from autumn 2028 until spring 2031, the existing venues in Salzburg’s Old Town will remain central to the Festival and continue to host operas. The Exhibition Centre will provide additional space for new possibilities, including a variety of concerts and other engagement opportunities.

Peter de Caluwe, who begins his tenure as Artistic Director in Oct. 2027 said in a press release, “I am interested in encounters between generations and artistic genres, between different aesthetic languages, between artists and their audience, as well as with people who have yet to discover the Festival. I envision a Festival that is deeply rooted in Salzburg, yet open to the world – that surprises and touches people, opening new perspectives for them.”
