By David Salazar

“La Stupenda, the Voice of the Century,” a new illustrated book by mezzo-soprano Fiona Janes about Dame Joan Sutherland, will be released Oct. 27 in hardback.

The book marks the 100th anniversary of the Australian soprano’s birth. It covers her career on the world’s major stages and her partnership with her husband, conductor Richard Bonynge, and their work on the bel canto repertoire and their recordings.

The book also includes rare photographs, archival material and personal insights, and it is published in a collector’s edition with a slipcase.

Janes is the CEO and artistic director of the Joan Sutherland & Richard Bonynge Foundation, and she founded the JSRB Bel Canto Award, the Sydney International Song Prize and the Elizabeth Connell Prize. She was a contributing writer on “Chalet Monet: Inside the Home of Dame Joan Sutherland & Richard Bonynge” and has written for Decca.
