Royal School of Church Music To Celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee with ‘Platinum Project’ Commission

By Logan Martell

The Royal School of Church Music has announced “Platinum Project,” a special commission from award-winning British composer Thomas Hewitt Jones which comes in commemoration of Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.

Hewitt has composed “In Our Service,” a 4-minute anthem which pays tribute to Britain’s monarch. The work is meant to be performed in a variety of styles, being adaptable as four-part ensemble, two-part with piano and leadsheet, and a full symphonic orchestration. Arrangements can be found on the RSCM’s website to facilitate participation in the Jubilee. Choirs and schools are encouraged to share their performances via social media with the hasthtag “#RSCMplatinum”

“I was delighted to be asked by the Royal School of Church Music to write a choral anthem to celebrate HM the Queen, their Royal Patron, on her incredibly special jubilee,” Jones said in a press release. “Typifying selfless service to her country, her very existence encourages togetherness – so the opportunity to celebrate her with a new and inclusive, yet weighty, piece of choral music that can be sung by choirs all around the UK really resonated for me.”
