The Rossini Opera Festival has announced it will take place from August 8 to August 20 with a readjusted program.

The festival announced that it will still stage a new production of “La cambiale di matrimonio” at the Teatro Rossini on August 8, 11, 13, 17, and 20. To ensure social distancing the orchestra will be located in the stalls and the audience will be seated in the boxes.

The opera will be conducted by Dmitry Korchak in his debut as a conductor at the ROF leading the Orchestra Sinfonica G.Rossini and the  cast will feature Carlo Lepore, Dilyara Idrisova,  Davide Giusti, Iurii Samoilov, Alexander Utkin, and Martiniana Antonie. The new production will be staged by Lawrence Dale with sets and costumes by Gary McCann. The opera will be paired wit the Cantata Giovanna d’Arco sung by Marianna Pizzolato.

The last performance will be streamed for free on the festival’s website and will also be screened at the Piazza del Popolo.

The Piazza will also be the venue for the famous Emilio Sagi production of “Il viaggio a Reims” with the Accademia Rossiniana “Alberto Zedda” for two performances on August 12 and 15, featuring alumni from the past  editions. The Orchestra Sinfonica G.Rossini will be conducted by Giancarlo Rizzi.

The Piazza will also host six recitals with orchestra featuring some of the most acclaimed Rossinian singers including Olga Peretyatko (August 9), Nicola Alaimo (August 10), Jessica Pratt (August 14), Juan Diego Flórez (August 16), the trio of “buffo” basses Alfonso
Antoniozzi, Paolo Bordogna and Alessandro Corbelli (August 18), and Karine Deshayes (August 19). The orchestra Filarmonica G.Rossini will be conducted by Michele Spotti, Nikolas Naegele and Alessandro Bonato.

The festival will notify audiences for the new booking date and all the information regarding bookings and the ticket sales.

The Rossini Opera Festival was originally slated to present productions of “Elisabetta, regina d’Inghilterra” and “Moïse et Pharaon.”
