The Dallas Opera Names 2026 General Director’s Award

By Francisco Salazar

Ian Derrer has named The Dallas Opera Board of Directors Chair Quincy Roberts as the 2026 General Director’s Award recipient.

Roberts was awarded the prize for his stewardship during last fall’s O’Donnell Foundation Challenge Grant campaign, in which the company raised $54.5 million in six months, and this spring’s search for a new CEO.

In a statement Derrer said, “Quincy has shown exemplary leadership in this time of both great achievements and transitions. I could not have asked for a better boss and partner to mobilize all we did for the O’Donnell Foundation match. His first-hand knowledge of opera and its many complexities has been a huge asset to TDO, as has his proven passion for this beautiful, historic art form.”

The award was announced at The Dallas Opera’s final 2025-26 Season Board and Trustees meeting held on June 11. The event also celebrated outgoing Kern Wildenthal General Director and CEO Derrer and his long tenure with the company, and it welcomed new CEO David Lomelí, who began his new role with TDO on June 1.
