Rolando Villazón, Magdalena Kozená, Maria Kataeva, Emily Pogorelc, Johannes Kammler Headline Mozart Week 2023
By David SalazarThe Stifung Mozarteum Salzburg has announced the 2023 edition of Mozart Week.
The week is set to run between Jan. 26 and Feb. 5, 2023. Our focus will be solely on vocal and operatic performances.
Ivor Bolton will conduct the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra in a performance featuring baritone Rafael Fingerlos and Rolando Villazón as moderator. The program will include music from a wide range of operas including “La Clemenza di Tito,” “Bastien und Bastienne,” and the concert aria “Io ti lascio, oh cara, addio,” among others.

Tenor Rolando Villazón will present “Serenata Mexicana” alongside Los Mariachis Negros.”
Performance Date: Jan. 27, 2023
Sir Andras Schiff will conduct a concert version of “Don Giovanni” as directed by Rolando Villazón. The opera stars Johannes Kammler, Josée Coca Loza, Sylvia Schwartz, Julian Prégardien, Magdalena Kozená, Maurizio Muraro, and Julia Lezhneva.

Families will get to check out “The Old Tree or: Franzi’s Journey to the End of the World” with such singers as Marlene Metzger, Paul Schweinester, and Theodore Platt.

Jordi Savall will conduct Mozart’s Missa in c, K. 427 with Le Concert des Nations and la Capella Reial de Catalunya.

Soprano Emily Pogorelc will perform several arias by Mozart alongside conductor Alejandro Posada and the Orquesta Iberacademy Medellín.

Rolando Villazón, Marianne Crebassa, Tareq Nazmi, and Nadine Sierra will headline the Mozart Requiem. Daniel Barenboim will conduct the Vienna Philharmonic.

Gemma New will conduct a concert featuring the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, mezzo-soprano Maria Kataeva, and pianist Robert Levin. The showcase will include a number of orchestra works and arias.

Film
Rolando Villazón will give an introduction to “Don Giovanni.”

Audiences will be able to check out a film version of the Requiem conducted by Herbert von Karajan from 1986. The work stars Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Helga Müller-Molinari, Vinson Cole, and Paata Burchuladze.

The festival will also present a film version of “La Clemenza di Tito” from the Palais Garnier in 2005 starring Christoph Prégardien, Catherine Naglestad, Ekaterina Siurina, and Susan Graham.
