The Jette Parker Artists will present “Tales of Love and Loss,” a triple bill of chamber operas by contemporary female composers, at the Royal Opera House’s Linbury Theatre from May 1 to 9, 2026.

Peggy Wu conducts the Britten Sinfonia. Talia Stern makes her Royal Opera House debut directing the production.

The evening includes the world premiere of the chamber version of Elena Langer’s comic opera “Four Sisters,” originally commissioned by Dawn Upshaw in 2012 and previously staged by Bard College, the National Opera Studio, and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The opera will star Madeline Robinson, Hannah Edmunds, Jingwen Cai, Ellen Pearson, Sam and Hird.

“The music is intentionally eclectic featuring everything from calypso moments, waltz moments and even some 12-tone moments,” said Langer, per an official press release. “It was fun to reduce the music while trying to keep big effects and lush textures.”

The triple bill is completed by Elizabeth Maconchy’s “The Departure” (1961) and Charlotte Bray’s “Making Arrangements” (2012). “The Departure” will star Sam Hird and Ellen Pearson, while “Making Arrangements” will feature Sam Hird, Hannah Edmunds, Giorgi Guliashvili, and Jingwen Cai.
