
Rebecca de Almeida to Headline Virtuosi OPERA’s ‘Carmen’
By David SalazarThe Virtuosi OPERA will present a fully-staged production of Bizet’s “Carmen” across four New England venues this May and June.
The opera will be headlined by Brazilian mezzo-soprano Rebecca de Almeida in the title role, American tenor Jax Hassler as Don José, Polish-American baritone Wojciech Bonarowski as Escamillo, and American soprano Makaela Shade-Alexander as Micaëla. The cast also includes Laurentiu Rotaru as Zuniga, Brian Alvarado as Le Dancaïre, Daniel Kamalic and Kevin Courtemanche alternating the role of Le Remendado, AddieRose Brown as Mercédès, and Emily Tate Daniel as Frasquita.
Artistic Director Adrian Sylveen leads the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra.
The production opens on Friday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Hartford, Connecticut with subsequent performances set to take place on Friday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy of Music Theater in Northampton, Massachusetts; Sunday, May 31 at 6 p.m. at Trinity on Main in New Britain, Connecticut; and Sunday, June 7 at 6 p.m. at Evans Hall, Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut.
