Random Opera to Present ‘Rare and Revered’

By David Salazar

Random Opera has announced that it will present “Rare and Revered” in London on Oct. 30, 2021.

The showcase is set to showcase major hits from some of opera’s greatest works including “La Bohème,” “La Traviata,” and “Don Giovanni.” That makes up the “revered” portion of the program. However, the company will also present several arias and ensembles from such rarities as “Le Villi,” “Ascanio in Alba,” and “Armida Abbandonata.”

Audiences will hear sopranos Alysia Hanshaw, Anna-Luise Wagner, Jane Burnell, Jessica Edom-Carey, and Freya Holliman; mezzo-soprano Deborah Holborn; counter-tenor Garreth Romain; tenor Peter Martin; baritone Matthew Secombe; and bass-baritones Eugene Dillon-Hopper, and Richard Tegid Jones.

The singers will be accompanied by Erika Gundesen.

“I hope that the audiences will see that live music is very much alive and well, but that it still needs our support.  Just as with the rare music in our programme, it’s so easy not to realise what you’re missing until it’s gone; and I hope that our concert inspires people look beyond what they know, to seek out something new and different, and in particular to help support all the amazing artists that we are lucky to have in this country,” the company’s press department said in a statement.

The event will be presented at St. Paul’s Church Convent.
