The Rai is reporting that the opening night transmission of “Don Carlo” at the Teatro alla Scala was seen by 1.4 million spectators.

General Director Dominque Meyer said, “I want to thank Rai Cultura who broadcast the show on Rai1 for the first time in 4k, guaranteeing Italian and worldwide viewers an unprecedented level of quality. The Premiere is the moment in which the collective work of the entire Theater is felt more than ever and I would like to extend my thanks, as well as to the Orchestra and Choir, to all the departments of the La Scala machine, from the stage to the laboratories and offices.”

Rai CEO Roberto Sergio added, “We have written another great page of television and culture, as the duty and passion of being a Public Service require us to do  – Scala and Rai have reiterated with what took place on the stage and on TV screens – and not only – that they are two fundamental institutions for the diffusion of culture in our country.”

The opening night of La Scala starred Anna Netrebko, Elina Garanca, Francesco Meli, Luca Salsi, Michele Pertusi, and Jongmin Park, which was received with a 13-minute ovation.
