Teatro Alla Scala’s ‘Tosca’ Breaks Records

The Teatro alla Scala’s opening night has broken records.

The 2019-20’s “Tosca” broadcast was viewed by 2.8 million on Rai 1, the most viewers for an opera in the history of the broadcaster. Viewership was up from last season’s “Atilla” which was viewed by 1.9 million and from the previous record for “Madama Butterfly,” which was seen on the Rai by 2. 6 million.

The Rai also noted that the opening night had a huge presence on social media with content shared throughout the internet.

In a press release the broadcast giant thanked conducted Riccardo Chailly, director Davide Livermore, the three protagonists to the opera, and Patrizia Carmine, who directed the opera for the screen.

The Teatro alla Scala’s new “Tosca” stars Anna Netrebko, Francesco Meli, and Luca Salsi and will run until Jan. 8, 2020. Saioa Hernández stars in the final three three performances.
