Potsdam-Sanssouci Music Festival to Present Scarlatti’s ‘I portentosi effetti della Madre Natura’

The Potsdam-Sanssouci Music Festival is set to present Scarlatti’s “I portentosi effetti della Madre Natura” starting on June 12, 2022.

The opera, which will also be presented on June 14016 at the Sclosstheater in the Neues Palais, will be directed by filmmaker Emmanuel Mouret in his operatic debut.

The showcase will star Rupert Charlesorth as Celidoro, a man who “stumbles into freedom” after being in total isolation. He will be confronted with a new world, people, and especially the “confusing presence of women.” He will be joined by Filippo Mineccia, Roberta Mameli, Benedetta Mazzucato, Maria Ladurner, Niccolo Porcedda, Dana Marbach, and João Fernandes.   Dorothee Oberlinger conducts ENSEMBLE 1700.

The opera features a libretto by Carlo Goldoni and had its first performance on Nov. 1, 1752.
