Polish National Opera Cancels Upcoming Performances

By Francisco Salazar

The Polish National Opera has announced it will remain closed until at least April 25.

The company said that the Council of Ministers has decided to extend most restrictions including cultural activities due to the rise in COVID-19 cases.

As a result, the Polish National Opera has announced that it will cancel a Workshop for children, its production of “Cardillac” and Meeting with Muzalinda. The company also announced that the extended closure will affect its May schedule and as a result, the upcoming “Aida” production has been canceled.

However, the company will record Hindemith’s “Cardillac,” directed by Mariusz Treliński, without an audience and will broadcast it via its streaming platform.

The “Aida” performances will also be replaced with two performances of “Werther” scheduled for May 7 and 9. Piotr Beczala will sing the title role following his acclaimed performances earlier in the fall. OperaWire said, “Piotr Beczała Reigns Supreme in Willy Decker’s Masterful Production.”
