Plácido Domingo To Return To Rome

By Francisco Salazar

Plácido Domingo is set to sing in Rome for the first time since 2003.

The tenor will perform at the Caracalla for the first time since 1990 when he performed with The Three Tenors. This time Domingo will perform in a night of Zarzuela with frequent collaborators Ana María Martínez and Arturo Chacón-Cruz. Jordi Bernàcer is set to conduct the historical evening with the Orchestra del Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.

Domingo has sung three times in Rome since that historic Three Tenors concert, including the title role in “Parsifal” in 1998, “Fedora” in 1999, and the title role in “Sly” in 2003. He has also conducted on two occasions: in 2000, he showcased “Tosca” with Luciano Pavarotti and in 2005, he led Verdi’s “Aida.”

Domingo recently celebrated his 50th anniversary at the Arena di Verona and is set for concert performances of “Luisa Miller” at the Salzburg Festival.  He will also return to the Metropolitan Opera to team up with Anna Netrebko for Verdi’s “Macbeth” before singing Verdi’s “Nabucco” at Opernhaus Zurich.
