Plácido Domingo will sing his final performances at the Wiener Staatsoper in January.

In an interview with the company’s new General Director Bogdan Roscic, the director said that Domingo’s upcoming performances of “Nabucco” will mark his final performances with the company.

The director noted, “For him, it was a great wish to say goodbye to the public in Vienna on his round birthday.” Domingo will turn 80 on January 21, 2021.

Rosic also told the press that although the accusations of sexual misconduct were well known to him, he had found nothing that prevented him from singing with the company. He said, “I have not found anything in the whole discussion, and I am not the only one, that justifies the prohibition of working for Domingo.” He added that the accusations were formulated in a “dubious, anonymous and abstract way.”

Domingo returns to Vienna in September on Sept. 9 for Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra” while his “Nabucco” performances open on Jan. 11.

Domingo made his Wiener Staatsoper debut on May 19, 1967, in the title role of Verdi’s “Don Carlo.” He was 26-years-old.
