Plácido Domingo Announces Concert In Mexico

By David Salazar

Plácido Domingo has announced that he will return to Mexico to celebrate his 60th anniversary of his debut at the Palacio de Bellas Artes.

Domingo first performed there in 1959 as Borsa in “Rigoletto.”

The legendary tenor made the announcement via a video in which he expressed his gratitude at winning the Premio Batuta.

“I hope to see you soon as I am planning a concert to celebrate my debut at the Palacio de Bellas Artes as Borsa six decades ago. It feels like it was just yesterday,” he stated in the video.

The video statement was Domingo’s first “public” appearance outside of a theater and comes as he is being investigated by the Los Angeles Opera for sexual misconduct and potential abuse of power. He has already been either fired or forced to withdraw from all of his U.S. performances and his career within the country seems to be at an end.

He still has many engagements in Europe in such cities as Madrid, Zurich, Vienna, and London.
