Pittsburgh Opera to Present Haydn’s ‘Armida’
By Francisco SalazarPittsburgh Opera is set to present the first-ever performances of Joseph Haydn’s opera “Armida” at the Pittsburgh CAPA School Theater, in downtown Pittsburgh.
The opera will be presented between Jan. 25 and Feb. 2, 2025,
The work tells the story of The Prince of Darkness who has sent the enchantress Armida into the world to seduce the Christian heroes and turn them from their duty. The bravest of these, Rinaldo, has fallen under Armida’s spell and she becomes enchanted by him.
The opera will star Lauryn Davis, Erik Nordstrom, Fran Daniel Laucerica, Audrey Welsh, Matthew Soibelman, and Shannon Crowley. Antony Walker conducts the production by Haley Stamats.
Armida is sung in Italian, with English supertitles projected above the stage.
