Classical IPR Launches New Youth-Focused Music Program ‘Intermezzo’
By Afton MarkayInterlochen Public Radio (IPR) and Classical IPR have announced the launch of “Intermezzo,” a new weekday broadcast and podcast debuting April 21.
“Intermezzo” invites listeners of all ages to take a few minutes each day to reflect, connect, and play with big ideas through the lens of classical music. It is designed to fit neatly into the morning commute, the pre-school routine, or as a calming end-of-day ritual. Christy L’Esperance hosts alongside a rotating cast of young co-hosts.
In each short-form episode, Christy L’Esperance and her guest explore a weekly theme in five engaging acts over five days. Each segment is paired with music to examine topics like emotion, humor, the science of sound, and the stories behind musical instruments.
“Intermezzo” also offers daily riddles and theme-related questions that listeners can answer by texting Classical IPR. Participants with correct answers receive a Friday shoutout on air. Online episodes will include bonus content such as YouTube videos and full-length music performances, encouraging further exploration and family-friendly discovery.
“I want listeners to make connections to our world through the lens of classical music so that we can better understand ourselves,” said L’Esperance in a press release. “’Intermezzo’ is about sparking curiosity. It’s a daily invitation to think about music and life in new ways, all while listening to something beautiful.”
“Intermezzo” will air every weekday at 7:30 am ET on Classical IPR (WIAA 88.7, WIAB 88.5, and W234BU FM 94.7 FM). The program will also be available to stream via the IPR website, mobile app, smart speaker,s and smart TVs.
