Pinchgut Opera To Showcase Australian Premiere of Vivaldi’s ‘Farnace’

By David Salazar

Pinchgut Opera is set to present the first Australian performances of Vivaldi’s “Farnace.” Performances are set for Dec. 4-10, 2019 at the City Recital Hall Sydney.

The cast will include Christopher Lowrey, Helen Sherman, Jacqueline Dark, Taryn Fiebig, and Max Riebl, among others. Erin Helyard will conduct a production directed by Mark Gaal.

“‘Farnace’ is characterized by women who make moral decisions in defiance of the orders given to them by their male counterparts, who often act rashly and impudently,” Pinchgut Opera Artistic Director Erin Helyard stated in a press release. “It is through the female characters efforts that the forces of war are stopped, and they will do anything to stop the endless chain of bloody revenge and mindless recriminations.”

This is the fourth Vivaldi work that Pinchgut Opera has presented since its inception in 2002. The company presented “Juditha Triumphans” in 2007 followed by “Griselda” in 2011 and “Bajazet” in 2015.
