Philharmonie de Paris Honors Pierre Boulez With its ‘2025 Boulez Year’ Celebration

The Philharmonie de Paris in collaboration with the French Ministry of Culture presents “2025 Boulez Year.”

This selection of events will celebrate the centenary of the birth of composer and conductor Pierre Boulez.

Soprano Sarah Aristidou performs in Boulez’s “Pli selon pli, portrait de Mallarmé” with Les Siècles led by conductor Franck Ollu.

Performance Dates:  January 6 & 7, 2025 (De Bijloke Music Center & Théâtre des Champs-Elysée)

Soprano Elsa Benoit serves as soloist with the Choir of the Orchester de Paris in concert of works by Boulez and Poulenc. They are joined by the Orchester de Paris. Richard Wilberforce and Klaus Mäkelä conduct.

Performance Dates:  January 9 & 10, 2025 (Philharmonie de Paris)

Soprano Barbara Hannigan and Sir Simon Rattle with the London Symphony Orchestra give the French premiere of George Benjamin’s “Interludes et Aria (Lessons in Love and Violence).”

Performance Dates:  January 13 & 15, 2025 (Philharmonie de Paris & Philharmonie du Luxembourg)

The first Act of Richard Wagner’s “Die Walküre” is performed by Johanni van Oostrum, Klaus Florian Vogt, and Falk Struckmann. They are joined by the Orchester National de France led by Thomas Guggeis.

Performance Date: January 17, 2025 (Philharmonie de Paris)

Soprano Sarah Aristidou serves as soloist with the Chœur de Radio France in Pierre Boulez’s “Le Soleil des eaux.”
Jean-Efflam Bavouzet accompanies at the piano and Juraj Valčuha conducts the Orchestre National de France.

Performance Date: January 23, 2025 (Maison de la Radio et de la Musique)

Soprano Jana McIntyre stars in a Repetition of the concert programmed in New York by Pierre Boulez in 1975. She performs alongside the New York Philharmonic led by David Robertson.

Performance Date: January 25, 2025 (Wu Tsai Theater – New York)

Baritone Will Liverman and the International Contemporary Ensemble present a concert featuring Kaija Saariaho’s “Sombre.”

Performance Date: January 30, 2025 (Carnegie Hall)

Countertenor Andrew Watts performs with the Orchester National de France and Maîtrise de Radio France as part of the Festival Présences. Matthias Pintscher conducts and Sofi Jeannin serves as choirmaster.

Performance Date: February 8, 2025 (Maison de la Radio et de la Musique)

Soprano Keren Motseri and the Boulez Ensemble present excerpts from Boulez’s “Pli selon pli.” Michael Wendeberg conducts. 

Performance Date: February 22, 2025 (Pierre Boulez Saal – Berlin)

Nneka Cummins’ “Flow state” gets its world premiere with baritone Benjamin Appl, Ensemble 10:10, and flutist Cormac Henry. Geoffrey Paterson conducts. 

Performance Date: March 5, 2025 (The Tung Auditorium – Liverpool)

Soprano Siobhan Stagg preforms works by Boulez with the WDR Sinfonieorchester. Jonathan Nott serves as conductor. 

Performance Date: March 9, 2025 (Kölner Philharmonie)

Festspielhaus (Baden-Baden) and Musikverein (Vienna) will present a homage to Pierre Boulez. The programs for these events are yet to be announced. 

Performance Date: March 26, 2025

Les Métaboles led by choirmaster Léo Warynski perform with the Ensemble intercontemporain in a concert of works by Michael Jarrell and Boulez.
