Jana McIntyre, Stephanie Blythe, William Sharp Headline The Orchestra Now’s 2024-25 Season
By David SalazarThe Orchestra Now has unveiled its 2024-25 season, the 10th in its history.
“As The Orchestra Now celebrates the milestone of its 10th anniversary season, I am deeply gratified by what we’ve achieved,” said Music Director and founder Leon Botstein in an official press release. “What began as an idealistic vision in 2015 has fully blossomed and taken root around the world. The program now provides an ever-expanding, international collection of talented young musicians with the skills to bridge the gap from music student to professional musician, as well as the opportunity to perform both classic and non-traditional repertoire in multiple venues.”
Here is a rundown of the vocal showcases on offer.
First up is “Mahler & Strauss,” a concert featuring soprano Jana McIntyre in Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 and Strauss’ “Four Last Songs.” Schoenberg’s “Five Pieces for Orchestra” is also on the program. Leon Botstein conducts.
Performance Date: Sept. 14 & 15, 2024 (Fisher Center at Bard)
Stephanie Blythe will headline “A Celebration of Sondheim and Friends.” James Bagwell conducts the showcase, which features vocalists from Bard Conservatory’s Graduate Vocal Arts Program.
Performance Date: Nov. 21, 2024 (Fisher Center at Bard)
Leon Botstein leads a performance featuring music by Ives. The program showcases baritone William Sharp as well as pianist Donald Berman.
Performance Date: Nov. 16 & 17 (Fisher Center at Bard) & Nov. 21, 2024 (Carnegie Hall)
“Siena, Wagner & Parsifal” will feature excerpts from Wagner’s final work, conducted by Leon Botstein.
Performance Date: Dec. 8, 2024 (Met Museum of Art)
Botstein leads a performance of music by Fauré, including “Shylock Suite, Op. 57; “Masques et bergamasques”, Op. 112; and “Pavane,” Op. 50. There will be a tenor soloist named at a later date.
Performance Date: May 18, 2025 (Met Music of Art)
