Paris Opera to Initiate Advance Renovation of Stage Equipment Starting July 2020

By Chris Ruel

Operations to renovate certain parts of stage equipment at the Paris Opera has been approved by the organization’s Board of Directors with work slated to begin July 2020.

Originally planned for the 2021 off-season, the move advances possibilities for broader programming by mid-2021 when the opera anticipates an environment more conducive to presenting performances.

The Palais Garnier stage will be out of commission until the end of 2020 while work on the Opera Bastille is scheduled to conclude by mid-November 2020.

The Paris Opera canceled the Palais Garnier season through December 2020, and the Opéra Bastille plans to reopen on November 24th with Verdi’s “La Traviata,” originally scheduled to run at the Palais Garnier.

The Opera encourages the public to consult its website as some performance dates are subject to modifications and additions. The company will also be announcing proposed alternative programming during the renovations, including concerts and ballets.
