Palacio De Bellas Artes To Celebrate Catán With ‘Salsipuedes’

The Palacio de Bellas Artes is set to present “Salsipuedes,” by Daniel Catán in celebration of the late composer’s 70th birthday.

The opera, which is Catán’s third opera, will be presented in cooperation with La Secretaría de Cultura and the Bellas Artes Institute of Arts and Literature. The rarely performed work with a libretto by Eliseo Alberto will be the third opera presented during the 2019 opera season.

The comic opera will be lead by Angel Macías, Liliana Aguilasocho, Josué Cerón, and  Mariana Sofía García. Luis Alberto Sánchez, Alejandro Navarrete, Rodrigo Petate, Armando Gama, Alan Pingarrón, Angélica Alejandre and Arisbé De la Barrera will round out the cast.

The opera will be directed by Luis Martín Solís with set designs by  Jesús Hernández and lighting by Rafael Mendoza. Costumes and makeup will be created by Sara Salomón and Cinthia Muñoz. The chorus and orchestra of the Teatro de Bellas Artes will be conducted by Ricardo Jaramillo.

“Salsipuedes” will be presented on May 26, 28, 30 and June 2, 2019.
