Xavier Puig has been appointed the director of the Orfeó Català beginning the 2025-2026 season.

Puig will succeed Pablo Larraz who led the ensemble for 14 years.

The board of directors of the Orfeó Català announced the news on July 4, 2024, and thanked Larraz for his work and dedication to the institution during all these years. Larraz began working as assistant director of the Orfeó Català in 2011 and in 2018, he became its general director. In 2021, Larraz assumed ownership of the direction of the Orfeó Català and since 2022, he has also been director of the Cor Jove and the Escola Coral.

Simon Halsey will continue to be the main guest conductor and ambassador of the choirs of the Orfeó Català del Palau de la Música Catalana.

Puig has been the Conductor of the Vallès Symphonic Orchestra and Principal Director of the Cor de Cambra of the Palau de la Música Catalana. He also directs the Girona Orchestra and the Enric Granados Auditorium Chamber Choir in Lleida.
