OperaFest Lisboa Announces 2021 Season

OperaFest Lisboa has announced its 2021 season, which will feature a wide range of opera programming.

It all kicks off with “Madama Butterfly” at the Garden Museum Nacional de Arte Antiga. The work will star Catarina Molder, Mads Wighus, Ana Ferro, and Christian Luján. Jan Wierzba conducts with Olga Roriz directing.

Performance Dates: August 20-27, 2021

Sandra Faleiro will direct a production of “The Medium” starring Cáita Moreso, Cecilia Rodrigues, Benjamin Barroso, Carla Simões, Tiago Amado Gomes, and Ana Rita Coelho. Diogo Costa conducts.

Performance Dates: August 28 & 29, 2021

The company will present a double bill of Kurt Weill’s “Mahagonny Songspiel” and Ana Seara’s “Until Death Tear Us Apart.” The double bill will be directed by António Pires with musical direction by Jan Wierzba. The operas will star Rafaela Albuquerque, Mariana de Sousa, Jorge Leiria, Carlos Monteiro, Tiago Amado Gomes, Diogo Oliveira, Christian Luján, and Cécilia Teixeira.

Performance Dates: Sept. 3 & 4, 2021

Tenor Mads Wighus will be on hand with several other artists for “Soul on Fire,” an operatic gala featuring scenes from some of opera’s greatest hits.

Performance Dates: Sept. 7, 2021

There will also be “Singing for Amateurs,” a New Aria Contest,”  and even an Operatic Rave.
