Opera World Could Face Challenges If International Travel in U.S. Is Limited Until 2021

International travel could be heavily limited in the United States until 2021.

In an interview with Fox Business Network, Steven Mnuchin, Treasury Secretary, said that International travel may not be able to continue until next year but it is still too early to know.

The Treasury Secretary added, “Our priority is opening up the domestic economy. Obviously, for business people that do need to travel, there will be travel on a limited basis.”

Mnuchin’s statements come as a number of airlines, including Hawaiian airlines and United Airlines, have begin adding international flights after being grounded mid-March.

The air travel restrictions will likely have a number of repercussions come September when Opera season begins. A number of artists from the U.S. are scheduled to perform in Europe while many international artists are set to grace the stages of the Metropolitan Opera and LA Opera in September. Earlier in March, U.S. President Donald Trump banned European travelers from coming into the U.S. Trump has yet to lift the ban.

While it is still too early to know how this may affect 2020-21 seasons, a number of cities are already putting restrictions on entertainment. LA Mayor has already noted that he believes concerts and sporting events will not begin until 2021 while New York governor Andrew Cuomo noted that Entertainment will be part of Phase four of reopening. New York is set to begin Phase One on May 15 but only for upstate New York.
