Opera Steamboat has announced the appointment of Julie Maykowski as its General Director and CEO.

Maykowski comes to the company with experiences at several organizations including Kentucky Opera, Sarasota Opera, Arizona Opera, Florida Grand Opera, and Beth Morrison Projects. She begins her tenure on Dec. 1 and is set to produce the world premiere of the Opera Steamboat commission “Welcome to the Madness.”

“I’m a Colorado native and am very excited to have an opportunity to marry my two passions together; opera and Colorado. I look forward to producing thrilling opera and vocal theater works in the home state that I love so deeply. I am definitely a mountain woman at heart,” Maykowski stated in an official press statement.

In her previous role with Florida Grand Opera, Maykowski was charged with administrative and casting duties. She also directed a production of “The Consul.”

“Julie brings a depth of knowledge and experience to Opera Steamboat that will be transformational,” added Susan Kirkpatrick, Chair of the Opera Steamboat Board of Trustees.
