Opera Revue to Present ‘Debauchery at the Dakota’

By David Salazar

Toronto-based Opera Revue is set to present “Debauchery at the Dakota” on May 31 and June 1, 2023 .

The showcase will feature such artists as soprano Danie Friesen, baritone Alexander Hajek, and pianist Claire Elise Harris. They will be joined by guest dancers A’Slayna Von Hunt, Tucker, Bianca Boom Boom, and Thrasher.

“The idea for the show happened after Opera Revue was accidentally doubled-booked with a Burlesque show at a downtown speakeasy club. Instead of performing separately, we decided to try putting the two artforms together – and it WORKED! Then we thought…could we make this into a whole show? After seeing the audience’s wild reaction to our first Debauchery at the Dakota, I think the answer is YES!” said Friesen in an official press statement issued by the company.

Opera Revue was founded in 2017 to bring opera to casual bar settings where audiences can talk, drink, and interact freely. Per the company’s official mission, “The goal is to take away the exclusive nature of opera and make it accessible for all.”
