Opera Orlando has announced that Melody Chang will be the company’s first-ever Marketing and Sales Manager.

The Spokane native will oversee marketing, box office, and front-of-house operations under General Director Gabriel Preisser and Artistic Director Grant Preisser.

Chang’s previous experience includes working as Director of Marketing and Interim General Director at Inland Northwest Opera and as Communications and Marketing Director for Spokane Valley Summer Theatre and the Idaho Central Spokane Valley Performing Arts Center. She is currently the Executive Director of the Asian Opera Alliance and in 2021, she founded the Chang Heaton Scholarship for Music Excellence, which provides unrestricted financial support to first-generation college students studying music or theatre.

“I am thrilled to be joining the team at Opera Orlando,” said Chang, also an active performer, per an official press release. “I have been greatly impressed by the company’s artistic initiative in platforming often-underrepresented demographics and reflecting the diverse audiences that Opera Orlando attracts today.”

Opera Orlando is in the midst of its 10th anniversary season, which recently featured performances of “La Bohème.”
