Opera Orlando Announces 2024-25 Season, ‘Destiny + Desire’

Opera Orlando has announced its 2024-25 season, titled “Destiny + Desire.”

“Our ninth annual season will feature five productions all presented at Dr. Phillips Center for the first time in company history, meaning subscribers can get more opera for less,” said Opera Orlando general director Gabriel Preisser in an official press statement. “Each production highlights the universal human emotion of desire and how it often conflicts with, impedes, or at times, determines one’s destiny.”

The season opens with “Macbeth.” The Verdi opera will star Norman Garrett in the title role. Mark Sforzini conducts and Matt Haney directs.

Performance Dates: Oct. 25 & 27, 2024

Closing out 2024 is a double bill of  the world premiere of “Four Lost Santas” and the Menotti classic “Amahl and the Night Visitors.”

Performance Dates: Dec. 6-8, 2024

James Marvel directs “Cendrillon” with Noam Aviel conducting.

Performance Dates: Feb. 7 & 9, 2025

There will be a site-specific production of “Werther” at Sydonie Mansion.

Performance Dates: March 7 & 9, 2025

Next up is a unique double bill of “Beatrice & Benedict” and “Cavalleria Rusticana.” Grant Preisser conceived the double bill. Pasquale Valerio conducts the operas.

Performance Dates: April 25 & 27, 2025

Then comes “Tremonisha.” Roberta Emerson directs.

Performance Dates: May 16-18, 2025

Concerts

The season also includes a Summer Concert Series.

Performance Dates: August 11 – 25, 2024

There will be a benefit concert of “Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín” in honor of the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida.

Performance Dates: Sept. 14, 2024

The company will also present its annual “The Mozart Dinner: An Evening of Enchantment.”

Performance Dates: Feb. 8, 2025
