Opera on Tap Postpones Production Due to COVID-19

By Francisco Salazar

Opera on Tap in New York has canceled “The Longest Night.”

The company made the announcement via social media, stating, “friends, we regret to inform you that 1 of our essential production team members has been exposed to COVID. For everyone’s safety, we have decided to postpone the show. Given our winter solstice theme, we are working with HERE to re-schedule this show to December 2022.”

Opera on the Tap is the latest company in New York to cancel due to COVID-19 following City Lyric Opera’s early shutdown of its production of Viardot’s “Cendrillon.”

New York City is reporting the highest positive tests since the beginning of the pandemic. The state reported a record 22,000 new cases on Dec. 20, 2021 but noted that hospitals are still coping.
