Opéra National de Paris Cancels ‘Manon’ Premiere

By Francisco Salazar

The premiere of Vincent Huguet’s new production of Massenet’s “Manon” has been canceled at the Opéra National de Paris.

The company announced that due to the National and Interprofessional strike movement, the premiere would be canceled.

This is the first performance since Feb. 6, 2020 to be canceled due to the strike. Throughout the months of December and January numerous presentations were shut down due to the strike including “Il Pirata,” “Boris Godunov,” “L’Enfant et les sortilèges,” “Les Contes d’Hoffmann,” and  “Il Barbiere di Siviglia.”

“Manon” was set to star Pretty Yende, Benjamin Bernheim, Roberto Tagliavini, and Ludovic Tézier. Dan Ettinger was set to conduct the new production.

The opera is now set to premiere on March 4, 2020 with Amina Edris and Stephen Costello in the leading roles.
