Opera Italia Los Angeles is set to present “Opera, Story & Song!” on May 15, 2022.

The showcase will kick off with a presentation of arias by such composers as Verdi, Rossini, and Mozart, followed by Menotti’s one-act opera “The Telephone.” The performance will also include dinner.

Menotti’s opera relays the story of Ben and Lucy. Ben wants to propose to Lucy and visits her in her apartment. However, when he can’t get her attention due to her interminable phone conversations, Ben is forced to make the only choice he can to get her attention. The opera had its world premiere on Feb. 18, 1947 at the Heckscher Theater in New York City with a cast including Marilyn Cotlow and Frank Rogier.

The performance will take place at Casa Italia in Los Angeles, California. Audience members will be required to use masks during the opera. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. local time with the opera set to kick off at 2 p.m.
