Opera Hispanica to Present ‘Fernanda’

Opera Hispánica, the Instituto Cervantes New York, and Opera in Williamsburg are set to present the premiere of “Fernanda.”

The work is a new version of the Zarzuela “Luisa Fernanda” by Moreno Torroba and Fernandez Shaw. Arranged by Opera Hispánica’s General and Artistic Director, Jorge Parodi, for vocal quartet, violin, and piano, the production will be Semi-staged with period costumes.

The cast will include American-Peruvian mezzo-soprano Kelly Guerra as Fernanda, Uruguayan baritone Marcelo Guzzo as Vidal, Mexican tenor César Delgado as Javier, and Puerto Rican soprano Laura Soto-Bayomi as Carolina.

This world premiere production of this version will be directed and conducted from the piano by maestro Parodi, with costumes by Eric Lamp, and art by Naama Zahavi-Ely. The performances will also showcase violinist Mia Nardi-Huffman and violinist Simon Lapointe.

Performances will take place on April 22 at the Instituto Cervantes of New York and on May 13 at the Kimball Theater in Colonial Williamsburg.
