Buenos Aires’ Selva Vocal e Instrumental to Present ‘Música para la Semana Santa’

By David Salazar

Buenos Aires ensemble Selva Vocal e Instrumental will present “Músicas para la Semana Santa” on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

The showcase, set to commence at 6 p.m. at the Catedral Anglicana de San Juan Bautista, will be led by founder Andrés Gerszenzon and features a program that draws on texts from the “Lamentations of Jeremiah,” the Gospels, and the medieval “Stabat Mater” hymn. Featured composers include Tomás Luis de Victoria, Emilio de Cavalieri, Marin Marais, François Couperin, and Marc-Antoine Charpentier, among others.

The vocal soloists are sopranos Natalia Salardino and Mercedes García Blesa, altos Griselda Adano and Gabriela Fabre, tenors Ricardo González Dorrego and Pablo Pollitzer, and baritones Sergio Carlevaris and Tadeo Painefil. They are joined by an instrumental continuo of theorbo (Laura Fainstein), viola da gamba (José Papotto), harpsichord (Ramiro Argüello), and organ (Marcelo Dutto).

Founded in 1996, Selva Vocal e Instrumental has built its reputation on the recovery and performance of rarely heard 17th- and 18th-century repertoire, with appearances at the Teatro Colón, among other major venues.
