Opéra de Paris Reopens With Garnier Performances

The Opéra National de Paris has announced that it will reopen its doors to the public after the six-month hiatus.

The opera house has confirmed in the press release that the Opéra Bastille will reopen on November 23, with the premiere of the first night of the Ring Festival in the concert form. Per the press release, the fully staged productions of Verdi’s “La Traviata” and Bizet’s “Carmen” will follow.

The program will begin at the Palais Garnier on September 19, 2020, and last until December, 2020. For the purposes of this article we will focus only on the vocal works.

“Evening at the Opera” will spotlight the resident artists from the Academy of  l’Opéra national de Paris. The program will include excerpts from Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’amore” and “Don Pasquale,” Puccini’s “La Bohème,” Richard Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier,” Johann Strauss’ “Das Land des Lächelns” from “Die Fledermaus,” and Lehár’s “Die Lustige Witwe.”

Performance date: October 1, 2020

Rossini’s “Petite Messe solennelle” will feature Chorus of l’Opéra national de Paris. José Luis Basso conducts.

Performance date: October 10, 2020

The Chorus of l’Opéra National de Paris will perform Brahms’ “Vier Gesänge,” Op. 17, and “Liebeslieder Walzer,” Op. 52, as well as Fauré’s “Requiem,” Op. 48.

Performance dates: October 24 – 25, 2020

The Chorus of l’Opéra National de Paris will give the recitals on October 17 and November 7, 2020.

“Comtes italiens” will showcase the resident artists from the Academy of  l’Opéra national de Paris. They will perform excerpts from Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” and “La Cenerentola,” Verdi’s “La Traviata,” Bellini’s “I Capuleti e i Montecchi,” and Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale.”
