Opera Colorado Announces Update to 2024-25 Season

By Francisco Salazar

Opera Colorado has removed Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” Production from the 2024-25 season.

The company said that instead of a full production, there will be concert performances of the work with singers, orchestra, chorus, and Artists in Residence.

In a statement, Greg Carpenter, The Ellie Caulkins General & Artistic Director said, “I am pleased that we will be able to showcase the extraordinary cast, chorus, and orchestra we put together for our originally scheduled production of ‘Il trovatore’ in two new programming initiatives: a semi-staged concert performance and a celebratory concert of opera favorites as part of our gala. I deeply appreciate the patience of our patrons as we reworked our programming and budgets and thank them for their generosity and support.”

The company added that the removal of “Il Trovatore” production is part of Opera Colorado’s commitment to financial sustainability and artistic excellence. The company also said that the change will allow it to focus on resources and be able to deliver fully staged productions of “The Daughter of the Regiment” and “La bohème.”

Opera Colorado first presented a two-opera season in 2013 and maintained the format until the 2021-22 Season. The 2024-25 Season will mark a return to this model.

“Il Trovatore” in concert is set to star Alexandra LoBianco, Deborah Nansteel, Roberto de Biasio, Ricardo José Rivera, and Young Bok and will be presented on April 26 and May 4, 2024.
