Opera Birmingham Announces ‘Sounds of Season’

By David Salazar

Opera Birmingham will present its annual holiday concert “Sounds of the Season” on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. at Brock Recital Hall, Samford University.

The showcase will star bass Won Cho, sopranos Meg Jackson and Allison Sanders, and Opera Birmingham Studio alumni DeLee Benton and Lauren Tinsley. Caitlyn Walters, Opera Birmingham’s current artist-in-residence, will also perform. The Opera Birmingham Chamber Choir rounds out the ensemble under the musical direction of John Robertson, who will accompany on piano.

This year’s concert highlights a meaningful collaboration with Grace Klein Community, a Birmingham-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting disadvantaged individuals and families.

“This partnership is a perfect way to bring the community together to celebrate the season while giving back,” said Lynne Hutton, Opera Birmingham’s managing director, per an official press release. “We’re thrilled to join forces with Grace Klein Community to share the joy of music and the joy of giving.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for donation. A collection barrel in the lobby will accept contributions, which will help Grace Klein Community provide relief to families in need during the holiday season.
