Opera Australia Commences Search for Next Artistic Director as Lyndon Terracini AM Departs

By David Salazar

Opera Australia has announced a worldwide search for a new Artistic Director following the departure of Lyndon Terracini AM at the end of 2023.

Terracini, whose career began as a baritone, made his Opera Australia debut in a production of “Albert Herring” and would become a mainstay with the company for years there after. In 2009 he was brought on as artistic director, where he would remain to this day.

“I’ve enjoyed my time as Artistic Director of OA enormously and I’m extremely proud of everything we’ve been able to achieve together. The past two years have been hugely challenging for all of us but to see and hear the wonderful performances so far this year has been thrilling,” Terracini said in an official statement issued by Opera Australia.

In a press statement, OA Chair Professor Glyn Davis stated that “Opera Australia owes Lyndon Terracini a great debt, and we have invited him to have an Emeritus role with the company after his term as Artistic Director finishes. The Board is committed to a rigorous international search for his successor.”

The company will be advised by REA Consulting, led by Richard Evans, in its search for Terracini’s successor.
