Opera Atelier Releases Behind-the-Scenes Doc for Upcoming Production

By David Salazar

Opera Atelier is set to premiere “The Making of The Resurrection,” a documentary short focusing on the company’s upcoming production of Handel’s “The Resurrection.”

The documentary, which can be streamed on the company’s website and YouTube channel, features interviews with the Creative team as they work to create the Handel opera under Ontario’s COVID-19 protocols.

“Our production of Handel’s ‘The Resurrection’ had been planned to premiere as a live performance during the Easter Season of 2020. The process of keeping this dream alive through the myriad challenges and lockdowns of the past year led filmmaker Marcel Canzona to examine our current rehearsal process with an eye to moments that are poignant and moving – but not without humor,” stated Marshall Pynkoski, Co-Artistic Director of Opera Atelier, in an email.

Canzonna previously worked with Opera Atelier on a short film “The Eye and Eye’s Delight.”

“The Resurrection” is set to premiere on May 27, 2021. It was originally set to premiere in April 2020 but was canceled due to COVID-19.
