Oper Köln has canceled the Dec. 30 performance of Walter Braunfels’ rarely performed opera “Die Vögel” due to multiple sick cases in the opera house. The company did not specify the nature of the illness.

The opera house already canceled a performance of “Die Vögel” on Dec. 28, again due to an undisclosed sickness.

The opera was set to star Young Woo Kim, Joshua Bloom, Samuel Youn, Wolfgang Stefan Schwaiger, Gloria Rehm, Anna Malesza-Kutny, Lotte Verstaen, Mine Yücel, Lisa Katarina Zimmermann, Constanze Rottler, Kristi Anna Isene, Ji-Hyun Lee, Eva Budde, Artjom Korotkov, Manuel Marin, Zenon Iwan, Heiko Köpke, Kevin Moreno, Christoph Westerkamp, Lucas Singer, Sung Jun Cho, and SeungJick Kim.

Gabriel Feltz was signed on to conduct a production by Nadja Loschky, with set design by Ulrich Leitner.

The seven day incidence in Köln currently stands at 215.2. However, the Robert Koch Institute has warned that the daily numbers could be higher due to the Christmas holidays underreporting.
