Olga Peretyatko Releases Statement Regarding Cancelation at Teatro Carlo Felice
By Francisco SalazarFollowing the cast change in Genoa’s Teatro Carlo Felice for “La Traviata,” Olga Peretyatko has taken to social media to explain that she has been going through medical treatment.
The soprano said, “I’ve been quiet for a while, but I successfully underwent surgery to remove a polyp the size of a small apricot from my maxillary sinus. It turns out that it’s been with me for 20 years, and only now do I truly know what it means to breathe freely!
“Unfortunately, I had to sacrifice performing ‘La Traviata’ in Genoa, but this operation had to be done in winter to avoid the addition of allergic factors in spring or summer, and I am currently not allowed to fly. Thank you to those who sent personal messages concerned about why my name disappeared from the lineup. I’m really sorry that those of you who bought tickets and wanted to see me won’t have the chance this time. But I’m inviting everyone to ‘Rigoletto’ in Florence! Thank you to the Teatro Carlo Felice for your understanding, and break a leg to my colleague Carolina Lopez Moreno who jumped in into this production!”
OperaWire reported a week ago that Lopez Moreno would take over the production which opens on Jan. 12 and runs through Jan. 19. She will star alongside Francesco Meli and Roberto Frontali.
Peretyatko will return to the stage for “Rigoletto” in Florence followed by “Il Trovatore” in Hamburg.
