Obituary: Conductor & Oboist Jorge Rivero Tiraldo Dies at 74

Conductor and Oboist Jorge Rivero Tiraldo has passed away at the age of 74.

According to reports, Rivero Tiraldo suffered a heart attack while leading a rehearsal at the Teatro Degollado in Guadalajara, Mexico with the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra and was preparing the ensemble for its upcoming Spring Serenades series.

During the rehearsal, Paramedics were called, but they were unable to revive the conductor.

In a statement, Jalisco Philarmonic said, “The Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra deeply regrets the death of maestro Jorge Rivero Tirado, extraordinary musician and conductor, with thirteen years of experience as oboist of our orchestra. We will fondly remember his joy, charisma, professionalism, and great human quality. Rest in peace.”

Born in Cuba in 1952, Rivero Tiraldo studied at the National Art School in Havana, and in Paris, where he won several awards.

Rivero Tirado’s oboe playing was internationally renowned. He won the First Prize for Oboe at the Havana National Music Competition as well as the Virtuoso Award for the best album in the Concert Music category. Throughout his career, he performed as both an oboist and conductor.
